Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Probate Question

My fiance's great grandmother adopted him. She died without a will, no husband, some grandchildren, and one naturally born daughter who is currently residing with other relatives in a house the great grandmother left behind that was paid in full. Does my fiance have claim to the house? Can he force the daughter to sell the house and divide the proceeds? Can he charge rent to the occupants of the house? What must my fiance do to protect his interest in the home and uncover other assets his adopted mother/great grandmother may have left behind?

Re: Probate Question

Your fiance would appear well advised to arrange for a consultaion with a local attorney who handles probate matters to discuss this situation before he undertakes any action "to protect his interest in the home and uncover other assets his adopted mother/great grandmother MAY have left behind".
