Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Do I have any rights to business owned by deceased father and grandfather?

My father-in-law and husband owned a septic business. My husband was killed when my daughter was 4. My daughter took care of my mother-in-law until she died and went to work for her grandfather. He remarried one year after my mother-in-law's death. My husband had no will. He has decided to sell the business. Does she have any legal rights to the business? She is his only grandchild and both of his kids are dead. He has the new wife and she has a daughter and granddaughter.

Re: Do I have any rights to business owned by deceased father and grandfather?

The answer to your question will depend in part on what kind of business it was (for example, a corporation? limited liability company? partnership?). Were there any written agreements between the owners (your husband and father-in-law) that might affect ownership in the event of death of one of the owners? Did you or your daughter take any active role in operating the business after your husband's death?

I will try to help after you have provided more information as per the above.
