Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

I am the sole beneficairy of an estate. The executor has stated that she is entitled to be paid for travel expenses to the funeral and that I would not be due to me being family. Am I entitled to be paid back for travel expenses to the funeral before the estate is closed out? Additionally, is the executor fee taken out of the gross value of the estate, taxable value of the state, or what remains in the estate?

You should ask the executor as to her authority in support

of her claim for compensation from the estate for travel to the funeral (if it's

not in any way connected with the administration of the estate).

As the sole beneficiary, you would be entitled to receive whatever you're

entitled to under the will and not for any additional special reimbursement for your travel expenses to the decedent's funeral.

Executor's fee is normally based upon the gross value of the estate, as I

understand it.
