Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Trust originals

My father had a revoccable trust & recently died. He misplaced the originals of the Trust documents & we can not locate them. The attorney who helped them has a copy. We have been told we need the originals & that the copies won't hold up. Is this true? Does this mean my father died without a will? What happens to the bank accounts & the assets that have been put into the Trust? Thank you for your help.

Re: Trust originals

The copy of your deceased father's trust instrument should be accepted(accompanied by an affidavit from the attorney who prepared it, if necessary) by the court, banks or other financial institutions if the original document(s) cannot be found. Get another opinion on the matter, if necessary.
