Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Will/land

My husband and I have been living on our property for 30 years. My husbands mother has changed her will and it does not list us to receive the property. When she dies, are there any statues that could save our property from being taken away?

Re: Will/land

You claim that you and your husband "have been living on our property for 30 years." Apparently, however, the property does not belong to you but rather to your mother-in-law who has other ideas as to who should inherit the property(other than you and her son). If the foregoing is true, then unless you've had some long term lease arrangement as tenants paying rent to the owner, your status with respect to this property would be little more than guest occupiers and you would be very likely without viable claims, either equitable or legal, to the property.

As a further note, if somehow there's been a mistake in your mother-in-law's will regarding the named beneficiaries, now is the time to address it while she's still alive rather than waiting until after her demise when it will be much more difficult.
