Can an employer make you pay to go to an event after you have already worked your regular schedule. Your contract states you must attend the events but it did state anything about any out of pocket expensives.

If it's part of your contract, then you must attend the event to avoid being in breach of the contract, but it would seem reasonable to ask your employer for reimbursement for your out of pocket expenses in so doing.
