Bad checks getting sued, Can I bankrupt

My name is--name removed--I have a history of depts over the last 10 years, I get a job there's never enough money to pay enough,the depts go to collections one of the collections is suing me I have 20 days to write to the courts, I don't have the money.I am scared that this will open a can of worms that I can't afford to be opened, can I do(a do it yourself bankruptcy)while this law suit is in court. Please help

If your court case is a criminal case then filing bankruptcy will not help. If your case is a civil collections action then filing bankruptcy will stay all civil proceedings. In other words, any collection must go through the Bankruptcy court, not the Superior court AND they cannot harass you any more for debts incurred prior to your bankruptcy filing. When you are discharged, you no longer have to pay any of the debt incurred prior to bankruptcy.
