Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington
we gave a motorcycle back to the bank and they sold it for less than what was owed. ($6,000) now 1 1/2 later a different person that is a debt collector is trying to collect the debt. what are our options? what does it mean if the original debtor wrote it off on our credit report?

The first thing you should do is ask the new creditor to produce documentation that they are in fact the owner of the debt. If they are the owner of the debt they may sue you if the statute of limitations has not passed. The good news is this debt would be dis-chargeable in a bankruptcy should you decide to go that route.
