Bankruptcy on just medical bills
You can't. Bankruptcy applies to all of yourdebts; you can't pick and choose.
Bankruptcy can be reported on credit reportsfor 10 years. It is bad for obtaining credit, but it is not the end of the world -- it is often possible to get credit soon after discharge.

Bankruptcy for medical bills
You can not selectively file. It is an all or nothing situation. It will destroy your credit for about 10 years. You need to meet with an attorney and review your situation. There may be other alternatives.
