My boss is being sued, and we're not supposed to know why. He has been told to take a personal leave of absence and not contact us. We were told only that he was on a personal leave. A customer called my boss at home with a question and he contacted me with it the question. I took care of the customer's problem. I was called on the carpet and threatened with disciplinary action if I contacted him again. I had not made the initial contact.
I opened my email to find another note from my boss about another customer. I deleted the email, and emailed him
from home that evening that I would be in trouble if he contacted me again. The company found out and put me on
two days leave without pay. Do they have a right to tell me who I may speak with or email with when I am not at work?

Contact with co-workers, whether colleagues at your level, people you supervise or who supervise you, can be controlled by your employer when it relates to work situations or business with your company. There is no right to regulate purely social or personal contact but there is a legitimate business interest to regulate contact that results with customer interface or other business activities or matters.
