Legal Question in Business Law in Washington

can I remove flooring if lease is broken

I am in the 8th month of a 3 year commercial lease. I have paid the last couple of months 10-15 days late now the landlords want me out by the end of the month. I did way more work on my own here than I would have if they weren't constantly saying how they would help me out. I thought that ment they would be understanding about business being slow in our town. I want to take the new flooring that I installed can I do that?

Re: can I remove flooring if lease is broken

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Technically, yes, but ONLY if you restore the old flooring to at least the condition it was in when you got there. I'm guessing you've thrown the old flooring out, but even if not, the "revised" floor has to be in at least as good a shape as the old one.

It may be possible that you can recover from the landlords for work that you have done on the premises, depending on communications between you, on the terms of your lease, and other details not present in your post. But no matter what your position in that regard, you can only hurt yourself by tearing up the new floor.
