can we date after the case is close?

The ethical rules are going to apply to the LAWYER, not to you, as the former client, in this case.

Generally, the ethical rules shouldn't prohibit dating your lawyer, so long as it is indeed AFTER the case is over. If you anticipate any further legal activity on the case, such as sometimes happens in child custody matters, for example, then realize that your lawyer MIGHT then decide you should have ANOTHER lawyer for any such subsequent representation.

The lawyer ought to research the matter, as it's handled very differently from one jurisdiction to the next.

On your end, that is purely your decision. But if your case was a divorce, I'd wait at least six months to hook up so you'd have a chance to think things through.

As far as your attorney goes, he or she should know enough to review the Rules for Professional Conduct before making the deicion. But that's his or her problem.

Be sure to do (or not do) what's best for YOU.
