Yes. It has nothing to do with marriage. It has to do with how many people are living in a place, and who has responsibility for paying the rent.

From a landlord's perspective, it costs more to the landlord the more people who are living in a house or apartment. The landlord may have rented the place to just one person (your spouse). He or she has the right to decide whether to rent to you to begin with, not to mention you as an additional person.
