Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Washington

newspaper printing addresses

My son pled guilty to two charges of delivery of a controlled substance. The local newspaper printed his home address(his dad's and my home) on the front page of the paper. Is this legal?

Re: newspaper printing addresses

Issues about defamation are generally not a civil rights question (except that publisher has a civil right to publish). In the United States there is a general right to publish, and there is only liability after publishing. In general, truth is defense from liability for defamation. There are other possible claims, such as outrage or false light, but I do not think they would apply in this case.
