Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Washington

Opening the door for police

Do I need to open the door for a police officer if it is a noncriminal matter? How would this apply when it comes to lawsuits?

Re: Opening the door for police

Dear Sir/Madam:

The house may be proverbially termed as the owner's castle. Whether or not the police have a warrant may be of an issue in your case. In our state of Washington, there is a very high level of concern for privacy, especially in the home. As such, even where the police may hold a warrant, there is a general rule to Knock & Announce prior to entry.

It may be recommended that you contact an attorney on this matter.

Thank you.

Respectfully.
