Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Washington

Written Contract Signed under duress

I was almost fired at a company, and in order to get my job back I had to sign a contract that said I would not attempt to file harrassment or discrimination charges against the company. I had been out for 3 weeks, with no money coming in at all. I felt I had no choice, two weeks later, they found a way to fire me, and they did. Now I am looking to file discrimination charges, but I signed that agreement. Is there any hope to have that overturned later in court. Would it be positively upheld? Thank you very much.

Re: Written Contract Signed under duress

You can ask the court to release you from any undertaking in the agreement. It is certainly against public policy to have, as a condition of employment, a waiver of your rights as an employee established by the legislature.
