Legal Question in Technology Law in Washington

Brazilian and Argentine laws

Do you know anyone or have a Web site (I'm fluent in Spanish) where I could learn about Brazilian and Argentine laws regarding data transmission, such as the regulations issued by our FCC. We have some staff members who may be traveling to those countries, and they want to be sure that using their radios (owned by the U.S. Government/Department of Energy)while down there won't cause any problems with the local authorities. Thanks,

South American telecom laws

It is doubtful that there is a web site with such specific information. You should probably speak with a lawyer in each of the countries involved to be sure -- this is notsomething on which you should rely on your ownresearch, as the laws and their application inan unfamiliar legal system may be difficult even for a lawyer in another country to understand.

If you are working on US government projects(thus the USG-issuedtelecom equipment), the agency may be able to get you an answer, either through their own resources or throughthe State Dept. Ask them.

If you want assistance contacting foreign counsel or in dealing with your contracting officer on this, feel free to contact me.

1. seek lawyer! 2. a possible web site

I certainly endorse Attorney Press' earlier posting concerning the absolute wisdom of consulting a national lawyer.

If you have any thoughts of saving money by doing the research yourself, I urge you to consider the case of an American recently arrested in Russia (later released) for carrying a common GPS device. Who knew?

However, for casual inquiries, may I suggest: http://www.natlaw.com/database.htmI've only browsed this site (I'm not fluent in Spanish) but it seems that it might have, or link to, the materials you seek.

Please let me know whether this site turned out to be helpful.

Best Regard.
