Legal Question in Construction Law in Washington
Are verbal agreements a binding contract
After getting a bid from a contractor, negotiating the price of 6000.00 and giving a deposit of 2000.00 the contractor is telling us that he has done 6000.00 worth of work, but has only done one third of what he agreed to do. There were 3 people besides the contractor present when the agreement of how much was to be done and what the cost would be. Is this a binding contract? Do I have to pay the balance of 4000.00 if he has not completed what he promised to do? Is there something I can do to protect myself?

Re: Are verbal agreements a binding contract
Generally verbal agreement are a binding contract. However, the language acutally used become very important in a matter such as this. Further, if the contrator provided an estimate, the amount above the estimate may be owed.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to schedule a free inital consultation about this matter.
Good luck.
