Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington
auto repair shops
can a repair shop charge you $1500 dollars on day one, tell you they cannot give you an estimate up front. two weeks later give you an estimate of $4000.00 and wants another $2000.00 before work begins. Do I have the right to ask foir the initial money back and retrieve my car?

Re: auto repair shops
There are very specific rules about car repair shops providing written estimates up front and needing your signature to proceed.
I'd need to know more. Have you contacted the Attorney General's office?
Based on what you are saying, the shop and you have not reached a "meeting of the minds" about what is wrong and what you want to have happen and how much it is going to cost.
Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
