Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington

I own a Autobody shop, and have started work on vehicle. I gave the customer a bid for the work, and collected half of the amount down. I am half done with the work and now the customer thinks I am taking too long and wants to pick up the vehicle.

Will the customer be able to sue me for not completing the job?

Facts are going to matter quite a bit here - how long have you been taking? Was their a time frame you indicated it would take? Will the vehicle in its present condition be a harm? Have you done the work? Basic contract law and tort law would hold that you are obligated to perform the entirety of the work and might have the right to possession even against the owner until work is completed. The contract would need to be investigated, but as a consumer law attorney I would state that this situation tends to occur when the consumer believes the shop is taking far longer than appropriate (or the consumer realized they cannot pay what they promised to pay and are trying to get out of the contract improperly).
