Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington
Is a credit check required when buying a new car for cash?
I plan to buy a new car for cash. I have a security hold on file with all three credit reporting agencies and I don't want to lift it, even temporarily, since I'm not applying for credit. Are car dealers required by law to run a credit check, even when the consumer is not applying for credit?

If you are paying cash for the car, then there is no reason why the dealer has to check your credit. In fact, without your permission they can't run your credit.
