Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington

Death of a Credit Card holder

My father passed away and had a credit card debt of about $25000.He was the only one authorized to use the card.

He left no estate at all, not a dime, what was there, was used for his cremation. He had no property, stocks actually he left enough to be buried.

The credit card people said they'd write itoff, not to worry about.

But I now have a company calling trying to collect it from me and I don't have the money and I wasn't cardholer, what can I do?

If you want help please do not hesitate to call.

Unfair debt collection practice matters attorney fees are chargeable to the person trying to collect the debt, and I don't need you to pay me to do this.

That said, it is very likely you can do this yourself. Write to them; tell them that he's dead and attach a copy of the death certificate. If he had no assets, there very likely will be no probate. Confirm for them that if there *is* a probate they will get notice. That should do it. However, if you are losing sleep over this, please don't hesitate to call me. Elizabeth
