Lawsuit from Collection Agency

I was issued a summons for a lawsuit against me, regarding past due medical and child care bills. How do I respond and can I ask to set up a payment schedule or is it too late?

You need to respond as directed in the summons - in writing, before 20 days goes by. Otherwise they will take a default and then you cannot argue the merits.

Is there somebody else who is (at least) partly responsible?

Is it more money than you can possibly repay?

Have you given serious thought to filing a bankruptcy?
