Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington
Refund for defective item
I recently purchased a used laptop computer from a business online. The item was advertised to be cosmetically excellent and functioned flawlessly. When I received it, it was about 7 yrs old and looked it. I plugged it in to try it out, and it did not work. I sent it back to the seller and requested a refund. He said he will refund my money, but would deduct money for his expenses incurred selling and shipping the item. Otherwise, he said I would have to pay to have it shipped back to me. I do not want the computer, since it obviously was not the same as advertised, and I do not wish to conduct business with this business, since I do not trust them. I live in Texas and the seller is in Washington. What are my options? If I were to have to pursue civil action against this business, would I have to go to Washington to do that?

You could file your lawsuit in Texas.
Re: Refund for defective item
You can file in either state. We'd have to see your agreements with them to know if you should.

I agree that TX likely has jurisdiction. It is an awful lot of work for $700.00.
Have you contacted the attorney general in WA?
