Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington
Storage center charges
My storage center raised rent $40 a month w/o my signature. I didn't know law required my signature so I've been complying. I rec'd notice 11/07 w/ new contract enclosed.Terms & conditions were changing effective 1/07 But wrong contract was sent. Notice cited State law requires changes to be done in writing, signed, dated w/ my signature. I called requested new contract- was asked to return the wrong one & mine would be sent asap.I sent pymts honoring new contract, sight unseen; along w/requests for new contract. Co. misplaced 2/07 pymnt making it late by new contract but timely for old contract. I called re: misplaced check. Reminded Co. I still didn't have new contract. Co. said I had good standing;old contract was still in force til new one was signed. Co. said they'd send me contract. I rec'd notice 3/17 for late fees for Feb & Mar. and letter fee for Feb. Called & inquired why. Reminded Co. I did not have new contract & they'd misplaced my ck. Co. said 3/07 pymt was sent to different spot(not true pymnt was hand-delivered). I've made several requests for new contract. Regardless of errors, both cks were rec'd timely for old contract. I now owe $65 fees which increase after so many days & denied access to my unit.

Re: Storage center charges
You need to send a letter to your storage place saying what you said here. Send it certified return receipt requested and send a copy to the Attorney General's office, and demand they straighten this out.
Your only error in handling this is not doing everything in writing.
Hope this helps. Powell
