Legal Question in Consumer Law in Washington

Utility bill

Parents in their 70's live in a house owned by son and his wife. they applied and were approved senior discout from a local utility company by using their own names since 02. Week ago, the utility company sent a bill to this house with the son's and his wife's names (first time). The bill shows Senior Discout Reversal back from year 2002 about 2500$ without any explainations. This is first bill/letter to the son's and wife, not to the parents from the company. The parents paid every bill on time. What is a best way to handle this without losing electricity connection to the house the parents live. Thanks for any advises.

Re: Utility bill

Writing to the utility company and asking for an explanation for the decision to reverse the discount would likely be a good place to start.

Documenting the process of the decision and asking the utility to reconsider its decision is an administrative problem. You can ask your local Bar association for a referral for an attorney who does elder law who can help you.

Alternatively, Adult Protective Services may be able to help straighten this out.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
