Contracts require a meeting of the minds - a phrase that means both parties have to agree what they are contracting for, and the value of that product (or service).

That you have paid them $1,000 suggests that you believed that you had a deal. There is no basis for them to now say they need more money.

Furthermore, there is no consideration for the price adjustment.

Don't lose that paper with the agreed price and the description. Even without signatures, it acts as a description of the contract such that a judge could review it, see what you and the other party initially agreed to.

If they are now saying they want more money, you are within your rights to say no to the change in the terms and ask for your deposit back (unless you signed something else).

Write to them; explain that you had a deal, they are now attempting to change the terms but that you don't want to change the terms. Tell them that since they want to change the terms, you want your money back. Send a copy of the letter to the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division.
