Re: civil law
No, the statute of limitations on a suit for a credit card debt is six years, if necessary calculated to the day.
If they have been advised in writing that the statute has passed, you can report them to the FDIC for violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for attempting to do what they know cannot be done.
Be sure to tell the State Attorney General, too. When you communicate with a debt collector, do it in writing, certified return receipt requested.
Also, your divorce decree can allow you to sue your ex wife for failing to deal with a bill she was ordered to pay. (Depending on when it was entered).
Be sure to check out pennlawyer.com and budhibbs.com for good information on bottom feeder debt collectors. As far as I can tell, it is a scam when they are attempting to collect a stale debt.
Don't give them any account information. Elizabeth Powell
