collections
14 years ago i got out of my contract with Ballys Gym, and haven't heard a word about it for at least 10 yrs, now i have received a letter from some attorneys office wanting me to pay the remaining balance of my contract. How long is the statute of limitations on this?

Re: collections
Six years from the date of the last payment/communication from you to them.
If you need a sternly worded letter, this is one of the few places where that is effective.
Don't make promises to them; don't give them your bank account informaiton, and do require that they validate the debt. In writing, and send it certified and keep a copy and be really polite- a judge might need to see that letter.
Also, if you are completely correct AND they sue you anyway, you can ask for them (the collector) to pay your attorney fees and costs incurred defending, and you may have a cause of action under WA's consumer protection statute and / or the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. There are damages available.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
