Re: Credit report and collections

My understanding is that credit reports only show what creditors have reported to the bureaus. If the law firm is trying to collect on a judgment, don't let this linger, as interest runs at 12% on most judgments.

You should speak with an attorney to make sure that your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practics Act and Washington law are protected. You have specific rights, like the right to request in writing that the collectors not contact you until they have provided proof that you owe the debt (called "validation").

If you actually owe the debt, you might consider negotiating a payment plan to take care of the obligation. If you don't owe the debt, dispute it, and ask for validation. Feel free to call or email for an appointment with me if you'd like additional help. Thanks,
