driver's license and SS card copies

Is it legal for a credit card company to require a faxed copy of a driver's license and a social security card or face damage to credit record due to closing of account by credit card company?

No it is not. Never give out your SS information except to an employer. You can contact the Washington state attorney general for more information, or look at budhibbs.com.
