My pregnant wife & I are renters. We wrote a check for our rent last August, 2006, which included the $725 rent plus a $100 deposit for our pet and a $150 filing fee for a total of $975.
Our problem began when we found out that they did not attempt to cash the check until the following January (last month). By then, of course, we did not have the funds in the account to cover the check.
The manager at the time said we could make $50 installments each week to make up the balance, as it was partially their fault for waiting so long to cash the check. Last week, a new manager was put in and we are now being told we have 3 days to pay up or move out.
I understand that I owe them the money, but my question is...can they eveict us? My wife is 7 months pregnant. I'd go find another apartment if I could but I'm afraid they'll give us a bad referral and make it impossible to find another place.

You need to write to your landlord and respond to the 3-day. the 3-day is not for current rent (that's paid) it is for past due rent.
Your previous manager agreed to take payments (which was the right thing to do) and you relied on her promise.
If there is any fund you can tap, whether charity or family, this would be the time to do it.
You have until close of business Friday to come up with it or strike some sort of deal with your landlord, or face being evicted.
if your landlord is a reasonable sort, perhaps they'll go for it, if not, yes, they can evict you.
