garnishment

I am 65 years old and my wife is 62 I have medicare and my has no insurance at all. She had an emergency situation recently and we cannot afford to pay the bills,upwards of fifty thousands dollars. We have been married for almost 40 years can the creditors garinshee our bank account, we have our social security checks and my retirement going into them each month.

Well, there are several steps between being late on a bill and having a garnishment out of your bank account.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear - or think about - but you really need to consider either reaching agreements with the medical care providers to write off some of your bills (read: 98% of them) or go have a consult with a bankruptcy attorney.

I think what you are hoping to hear is that your income is not attachable, and I'm not sure that's true. Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
