Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington
lawsuit
I'm being sued by a collection agency. I wrote a check that bounced and the store I wrote it to sold it to the collection agency. They served court papers to my previous address. I now have 15 days left to respond to a summons and I don't know how to serve a response to an attorney who's office is a 100 miles away. Are you supposed to have it served in person or can I send it certified mail?

Re: lawsuit
You serve a response to a summons and complaint by mail so long as you allow sufficient time for it to get there. If the complaint has been filed you need to send your answer to the Court, with a copy to the attorney who filed it. The attorney must accept service by mail by court rule.
Hope this helps. Powell
