About 9 years ago my car got repo affected my credit, I owed 4000 dollars wich I never paid, last week I found out they wiped clean my joint checking account, I was not served any paperwork, I called them and they want to charge a total of 12000 I do not know what to do, I was on the wrong I know, but what options do I have I would like to get legal help, thanx for your time

You have a couple of options. You can pay 12K, or you can find the original lawsuit, and file a motion to vacate on the basis of no service, and be prepared to prove the lack of service.
You are correct that you need a lawyer to do this.
In the meantime don't give the collectors any information about where your assets are.
It is going to cost you money to fix this but not 12K.
