I owe a disputed amount of money to sallie mae that is now in the hands of OSI collections. Can they garnish my wages? It is from 2001. Original debt 6k, now 14k with interest.

Re: sallie mae

Student loans are truly the debt from h***. OSI collections can collect, but they cannot garnish your wages without a court order so authorizing.

The difference between the 6K and the 14K is your negotiating leverage.

There is an attorney in Federal Way named Richard Grandvold who has a good track record dealing with student loans in the context of bankruptcy. If you cannot pay anything, you should consider consulting with him about this.

Another attorney who does debt negotiation is Joyce Heritage.

You can get contact info at wsba.org.

I wish you all the best with this, but know that these debts can follow you to your grave if you don't get professional help with them.
