Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

wage garnishment

I have entered into a debt mgmt program to pay off medical debt. One of the creditors is attempting to garnish my wages, even tho they are aware of my enrollment. I will be unemployed and living in another state after the end of this month. Can the garnishment still proceed?

Re: wage garnishment

Yes it can _ IF _ the creditor has a judgment for money damages against you. A debt management plan is ineffective if the creditor believes you have assets.

The way to stop the creditor from a wage garnishment is to take a bankruptcy. Consult with bankruptcy counsel.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
