Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Accused due to past record

What are my options dealing with the theft of money at my former employer and being investigated and accused because I have a criminal record and the one everyone suspects told them about my history so the managers are accusing me when all my co-workers are letting them know its the bookkeeper cause the former owener let her go due to this kind of thing. I have been in trouble once involving my ex-mother-in-law and her credit cards which I never fought the charge cause I wanted to save my marriage. Now I regret it but it is haunting me now. They asked me to take a lie detector test which I agreed but then was told it is like a coin toss and if you are a nervous and stressful person you will fail no matter what. What should I do? I can't afford an attorney unless I am being charged so then I can get a court appointed one but until then I am needing some legal advice

Re: Accused due to past record

The problem with the lie detector is that you are making statements, potentially incriminating yourself. Make no statements about this case to anyone. If the police want to talk to you insist on having a lawyer present. As long as you don't hurt your own case by talking about it, you should be in the best position you can be in when the time comes for the public defender to assist you.

Ideally, if money wasn't a problem, you'd hire a lawyer now to begin gathering evidence on your behalf.
