Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
alpha plea
I have a friend who did what he says is an ''alpha plea'' and it comes up as a felony charge. We are trying to figure out what it is exactly he pled to. It was quite a number of years ago and he cant remember it being explained to him.

Re: alpha plea
It is actually an "Alford" plea--from a case "Carolina v. Alford" I believe. It means he plead guilty, even though he didn't believe he was guilty, for the purpose of accepting the plea bargain. However, in every other regard it is exactly the same as a guilty plea and the charge and penalties would have remained the same. For particulars you can contact the court or contact me further if you need additional assistance.
