Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Assult in the 4th

was charged with assult 4 in washington state and have plead not guilty. I was in a fight with my boyfriend. He wasn't listening so i hit his leg with an empty bag. Or at least i thought i did. I told the cops that i did, but i guess i just hit the bed, but because i stated i hit him i was charged. What should i do and what should i expect when i go to court?

Paul gives good advice. Thinking you hit him doesn't make you guilty. Even hitting him with an empty bag probably doesn't make you guilty. The case is really going to depend on the testimony of your boyfriend. Retain an attorney promptly so he can take a statement from your boyfriend and perhaps get the case dismissed. Enter a plea of not guilty. Make no further statements to law enforcment or prosecutors without consulting an attorney.

Retain an attorney. If you canot afford to retain an attorney, request a publid defender.
