Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Canceled License Plates

I was drivng my wife's car when I was stopped by a city police and was given a ticket for canceled licence plates. The officer said that the check was NSF when the registared the car. He gave me a court date and the law sited was RCW 46 12 160. We didn't know our plates were canceled, the car is in my wife's name and she didn't give the DMV a change of address when we moved. Besides getting the NFS checked covered, what should I do? I looked up the law and it said this was a gross mistermeaner. I have a CDL license, a driver's education instructors license, and a teacher's license. I need to keep my record clean, as it currently is. What guidance can you give?

Re: Canceled License Plates

Take documentation of all that you say and I'm sure you can work out something with the prosecutor that can keep this off of your record. I'd be happy to do it for you if you are in my area of practice.
