Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
What's are the charges? What's the likely verdict?
In a two story house, a man broke through the barriers at the top and bottom of the stairs (separating living space) between himself and his elderly aunt and uncle. He ransacked, damaged personal property, injured the dogs, and stole cash. Furthermore he destroyed the cable wires leading to the downstairs living quarters, that were in his uncle's name.
The police were called and the man in question indirectly confessed due to his own stupiditiy.
Since they live at the same address, is this a domestic violence case as well as breaking and entering?
What would be the likely charges filed and a potential outcome of this case?

Re: What's are the charges? What's the likely verdict?
Thank you for the question and the clear outline of the facts. Despite your good description it is difficult to answer your question because much remains in the discretion of the prosecutor. They could charge him with as much as Burglary and designate it as domestic violence. There are property destruction (malicious mischief), animal cruelty and theft charge options as well.
The likely verdict is difficult to predict. In addition to his confession, what evidence establishes his guilt?
