what are the penalties of leaving a child alone in a house, and then being charged for a DUI less than an hour later?

I don't know WA law, but in Texas there is no absolute age for leaving a child alone. The standard is based on reasonableness. So the issue would depend on the age and maturity of the particular child.

The fact of the DUI would be a separate charge. It would be hard to show a relationship between the two given the hour difference. The penalty on a DUI is up to one year in jail and a $5000 fine. As for the child abandonment that depends on if the child was injured. It can range from a gross misdemeanor, same penalty possibility as a DUI, to a class B felony with a maximum of 10 years in jail and a $20,000 fine.
