Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
Who do I contact?
My mother was convicted of 4 counts of theft 1. She was a first time offender, was eligible for diversion but victim wouldn't agree to that. She was sentenced to 6 months which she is now serving. Now it looks as if she will pay restitution far in excess of what she was convicted of. I know that her sentencing seems excessive after looking up the WA state sentencing grid. Also, I believe the victim is using restitution as a money making scheme as she continues to add to her losses with no proof of my mother's involvement. Who can I contact with specific questions? This is taking place in Wa state. I believe this is an example of excessive prosecution.

You contact your mother's lawyer. Even if she used the public defender that is still her lawyer. Your mother should be able to provide you the contact information.
