Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

craigs list scam

I listed a car on Craigs list and was contact via email by a person in NY. He wanted to buy the car sight unseen. He sent me a business check for $6,500 total: $2,800 for the car $3,700 for the shipping. I wire transferred the money to the name he gave me as the shipper in New Jersey. He was to contact the shipper to arrange for pickup of the vehicle. The day after I wired the money to the shipper, the buyer asked for his money back, claiming family illness. I told him no, and that I thought it was a scam. I asked specifically for the doctors name and number, but he has not responded in 4 days. I have not been told when the vehicle is to be picked up or any other information. I have no phone number, no address of anyone. I am beginning to think the check was a forgery and want to know if I will be held liable for the check amount. I have already spent $3,700 of it in shipping.
