Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
Criminal Felony Theft Charges
I was arrested for felong theft charges in Washington State. I bailed out of jail that nught I just paid the 10%. This happened in June of 2007 and I still havent received any information on my case or what is going on. The person who bailed me out received a refund check for the bail in the mail in July. How long does the retailer have to file the charges, or what could have happened to where everything was dropped and the court didnt tell me anything?

Re: Criminal Felony Theft Charges
The State (not the retailer) has at least three years, and longer for serious crimes, to bring the charge. There is a 90 day speedy trial rule so the State wants to have the case and evidence ready before filing against you. Then they file and go to trial quickly. You shouldn't think nothing is happening but should be spending the time preparing your defense. Contact me directly if you'd like further assistance.
