Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

criminal law

my 16 year old son was arrested for breaking and entering and burglery. Him and some friends broke into a local grocery store and took beer, cigerettes, chew and cakes. We have been told to wait and hear from the prosecuting attorney. So far they questioned him, had him write a statement and they took the shoes and clothing that he was wearing. What do I do or not do at this point. He was also recorded on video camera.

Re: criminal law

I am glad you asked this question because many people wait until court to hire an attorney and that is a mistake. As you can see, the prosecutor has already strengthened their case against your son with evidence and statements from him. Further, in showing the tape to you, they likely established the identity of your son. Now, the immediate issue will be getting the mattered filed before your son is 18 so that he can be persecuted as a juvenile instead of an adult. In a criminal case there are many issues along the way. So, hire an attorney right away. If you need further assistance contact me directly.
