Exercise your right to remain silent. Do not talk to anyone (and do not post details of the incident on any legal bbs).

Hire the best lawyer you can afford. Keep in mind that price is not always indicative of abilities.

If you cannot afford an attorney, contact the clerk's office and apply for a public defender.

Assault 2nd Degree with Deadly Weapon is a serious offense. The penalty range for a first offense is 3-9 months, but the deadly weapon enhancement is 3 years for a firearm and 1 year for other weapons.

Paul Ferris gives excellent advice. Do not make your case worse by hoping it will "go away" because nothing has been filed. The sooner you retain an attorney who can conduct investiga-tion into your case the better your situation will be. Do not fall for police ploys that "if you talk with them they can clear everything up." I am amazed at how many people get this advice and then end up making incriminating statements anyway. Contact me directly if you'd like further assistance.
