Would it be in my son's best interest to hire an attourney for his trial?

Perhaps it is better not to go to trial at all and accept some plea agreement. If your son is going to trial then it likely is in your interest to hire a lawyer. Especially if it is a DWLS 3rd degree charge as this minor charge will get the least priority from his public defender.
