Hi, I was wondering if a lawyer is responsible to keep up with current and near future effective laws in the criminal law area?

Re: Expectation of Attorney
A lawyer is required to provide "effective assistance." Knowledge of the majority of current law would be included. Near future likely would not. Laws often don't work as intended so it's difficult if not impossible to counsel on the hypothetical.
